Ideas for a Festive Fall Wedding

Oct 20, 2016

Imagine getting married surrounded by warm colors and crunchy fall leaves. September and October are some of the most popular wedding months, and it’s no surprise why. While the temperatures are mild and comfortable and the leaves are turning, fall weddings are not only practical, they’re trendy, too. Even though early fall weddings are popular, which can inflate the cost of venues, you can take advantage of the beautiful scenery with an outdoor wedding, which can usually save you a few bucks as well. There are many ideas and decorations you can run with to make your fall wedding special.

Hot beverages

Hot toddies anyone? If temperatures start to dip, your guests will need something to warm up. Nothing sounds like fall more than a toasty beverage. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, or even mulled wine and cider could be great options. For guests that are wary of cold temperatures outside, this idea might be enough to win at least 80% of them over.

Natural decor

Play with the palate that nature gives you. With gorgeous reds, yellows, and orange tones surrounding you, there’s no need to pick a completely contrasting color scheme. Jazz up your rental chairs with burlap wrappings or seasonal flowers that complement the surrounding area. Earthy touches can bring everything together.

Rent linens in neutral tones for the reception, and use bright leaves and flowers as centerpieces. If the reception is also outdoors, consider putting fire pits out, like at a backyard party. A fall favorite, bonfires can keep your friends and family warm into the night and provide ambient lighting as well.

Name tags

Tell your guests where they’re sitting in a unique way. Use a piece of reclaimed wood to print their names and table numbers. Or, instead of purchasing card holders, which usually go to waste anyway, choose a more sustainable (and delicious) way to anchor name tags — apples! Source them locally if you’re feeling extra festive.

Seasonal menu

Fall foods are amazing. Take advantage of what’s in season by crafting your menu using these items. Sweet potatoes, butternut squash, Brussels sprouts, cranberries, pumpkin, and apples are all best during the fall. For dessert, aside from a wedding cake, consider a warm apple or pumpkin pie.
